Help! My Cake Turned Out Awful!
Following are some quick cake baking tips if your cake doesn’t turn out quite right:
If your cake falls …
- The oven wasn’t hot enough
- The door was opened too often while baking
- The cake wasn’t baked long enough
If your batter overflows …
- The batter was over mixed
- Too much batter in the pan – check your pan size in the recipe
If the cake peaks in the center …
- The oven was too hot at the start of baking – test your oven to make sure it’s the actual temperature that you have it set for
- There was too much flour in the batter
- There was not enough liquid in the batter
If the cake texture is coarse…
- The batter wasn’t mixed enough
- The oven temperature was too low
- There was too much baking power or baking soda in the batter
If the cake texture is dry …
- The cake was in the oven too long
- If there were egg whites in the recipe, they were overbeaten
- There wasn’t enough shortening in the batter
- There wasn’t enough sugar in the batter
- The pan was too large
